Eater Talks: Who Gets to Cook What?

October 13 — 12:00 p.m. ET / 9:00 a.m. PT

Long before “fusion” became a food world buzzword, cooks of all stripes have been venturing out of their native cuisines and gathering inspiration from others. Today, it’s never been easier to do so, with an infinite scroll of recipes and access to ingredients from across the globe readily available to those eager to consume them. Which is great — unless something gets left behind or lost in translation.

On Tuesday, October 13, at 12 p.m. ET, chef Sohla El-Waylly, writer Navneet Alang, and chef Aaron Stewart will reflect on what it means to respect another culture’s cuisine, why chefs of color are often limited by what diners expect their food to look like (and punished when they don’t live up to those expectations), and the many issues around unbalanced and improper representation.

Eater staff writer Elazar Sontag will moderate the conversation and Q+A, which will take place over Zoom. Register below to secure a spot, receive a Zoom link prior to the event, and add the event to your calendar.
